The Gilgit-Baltistan government, which aims to explore bicycle destinations and promote sports in the region is organizing a three-day cycling contest “Tour De Khunjrab 2018” on Karakoram Highway (KKH) from 11th of May.
This will be the first cycling competition in mountainous Gilgit-Baltistan region including national and international cyclists. The competition will conclude at Khunjerab Pass at an altitude of 4663 meters.
Gilgit division commissioner Usman Ahmad said in a press conference at Pakistan’s National Council of Arts in Islamabad that 120 national and foreign cyclists from Australia, Afghanistan and the UK to attend the event.
Ahmed, accompanied by tourism secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Waqar Ali Khan, said several foreigners residing in Islamabad had also shown their willingness to attend the event. “In addition, cyclists from different provinces, cities and organizations will also participate in the competition,” he added.
