Pakistani female climber Uzma Yousaf will begin her expedition for the Broad Peak from June 17th. Last week, in a press conference she announced, “I am going to climb Broad Peak”.
Broad Peak is the12th highest mountain in the world at 8,051 meters (26,414 feet) above sea level. It is part of the Gasherbrum Massif in Baltistan, on the border between Pakistan and China, located in the Karakorum Mountains about 8 km from K2.
She wants to express that Pakistani women can do anything and mentioned Samina Baig as her inspiration. Broad Peak attempt will be really difficult for Uzma Yousaf because she does not come from the mountains and she climbed only 7027 m Spantik Peak last year but she is fully determined and prepared.
She said being a housewife, then thinking about climbing the mountains are two different things and she handles both. Her expedition will last from 40 to 45 days and all expenses will be administered by her own.
Uzma’s husband Yousaf and the children, wished her all the best for the expedition.
