Italian mountaineer dies at Gasherbrum IV

Terrible news came from the Italian expedition on Gaserbrum IV today. During an acclimatization ascent Maurizio Giordano (31 years) met with fatal incident. The perished mountaineer is from Alpine Military School of Italy.

At the time of the accident he was with Marco Majori, Marco Farina and Daniele Bernasconi. They were engaged in the acclimatization phase. When they reached at C-II , they decided to get back because of bad weather conditions. The accident occurred at 6,300 meters above sea level and his fellow comrades are trying to recover the body, no further detail could be available.

The Italian expedition to Gasherbrum IV was intended to repeat the historic route of Bonatti and Mauri, never repeated since 1958.
