Everest guide Adrian Ballinger has confirmed on social media that Americans Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson have become the first to ski the Lhotse Couloir, dubbed the “Dream Line”.
The pair climbed to the summit of Lhotse (8,156 meters), before skiing down, September 30 2018.
In recent decades, an estimated 25 people have skied the Lhotse Face, from Camp 4 or Camp 3 down to its base. The Couloir itself, however, which runs from the summit of Lhotse for 700 meters before opening onto the face, had stubbornly resisted all previous ski attempts.
Both Morrison and Nelson have previously skied Denali and Cho Oyu together. They also have a number of 8,000’ ers to their credit.
