China cuts climbing permits to 300 for Everest

China has announced it will cut the number of people attempting to scale world’s tallest mountain “Mount Everest” from the north side in 2019 as part of plans for a major clean-up on the world’s highest peak. According to Chinese state media, not more than 300 climbing permits will be issued this year and the climbing season restricted to spring. The clean-up efforts will include the removal of solid and human waste and recovery of the bodies of climbers who died at more than 8000m up the mountain. In last summer 2018, Chinese officials declared that they had removed 8.5 tonnes of rubbish, including large amounts of human waste from the mountain.
